June is often thought of as the beginning of summer. School classes are ending, graduations occurring and of course Father’s Day. June is also important for another reason and that is because it is Men’s Health Month. Men’s Health Week also falls in June (June 15-21, 2020). According to Men’s Health Month website the purpose of the month is to “heighten awareness of preventable health problems and encourage early detection and treatment of disease among men and boys.” Here are some Men’s Heath facts you may not be aware of:

Men’s Health Facts

🔹Prostate cancer is the 2nd leading cause of cancer deaths in men

🔹The 3rd most common reason men do not seek mental health help is they think they can handle the problem on their own

🔹Men are dying an average of 5 years younger than women and lead 9 out of 10 of the top causes of death.

🔹Men are at greater risk for death in every age group. More males than females are born (105 vs 100), but by age 35, women outnumber men.

🔹Men have a higher suicide death rate than women.

🔹Men account for 92% of fatal workplace injuries.

🔹Men do not see physicians for a physical exam nearly as often as women and men are more likely to be uninsured than women.

🔹1 in 2 men are diagnosed with cancer in their lifetime compared with 1 in 3 women.

🔹In 2010, there were 88.9 men for every 100 women in the age group 65-69

🔹81% of men remember the make & model of their first car. Barely half remember their last trip to the doctor
