At the beginning of every year, we step up and say this is the year we are going to make lifestyle changes so we can live healthier. Then as the year goes on this fades away into returning to old habits. It seems we sometimes need something to force into those changes. We have all heard this a million times, how we need to be drinking more water. There are many reasons why we should. Here are just a few of them

  • It keeps us hydrated
  • Helps with healthy skin
  • Prevent constipation
  • Improve brain performance, memory, mood
  • Joint health
  • Helps with weight loss

How Much Water Should I be drinking?

There are various methods and opinions on how much water one should be drinking. Here are some of them

  • 8 – 8 oz glasses a day
  • You body weight in ounce – if you weigh 150 lbs, then you need to drink 150 oz’s
  • Your body weight X 2/3
  • 72 oz women
  • 104 oz men

The best approach to start increasing your water intake until you reach 64 oz’s. Then if you think you need to add more then gradually increase it. Here is just one way to that. If you are only drinking 4 glasses a day and you want to reach the 8 glasses mark, then increase it by 1 glass a day for a week. Then the next week add another glass and so on until you reach the 8 glasses a day.

There is an old saying of sorts. It goes How do you eat an elephant? One bite at a time. That is the best approach to drinking more water. Take it at a step at a time, one glass at a time and before long you will be drinking more water.
